A Surprise Trip to New York

So we went on a bit of an adventure last week.  I got 4 passes to the taping of an NBC show in New York which will be on tv on October 29th.  It's called a Very Wicked Halloween and it was made to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Wicked the Broadway Musical.  It's Amy's favorite musical so I knew she would love this.  It was hosted by Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth, the original witches, and featured a bunch of other singers.  I do have a few video clips which I might post after the show airs.

I saw this earlier in the day on Facebook.  The girls were rehearsing.
We took the train up to New York.  It's not too far, like an hour and 15 minutes.
Ariel's first time that she remembers being on a train.  She liked it!

We walked up to Times Square.
Ariel was a little scared at first and clingy, it can be overwhelming with all the people and noise, but soon she was running off ahead of us!  We stopped at Melissa's to get a bunch of tiny cupcakes.
 Finally in Times Square.

NBC asked people to come in costume to try out to stand around the stage.  This was outside the hotel.
 Inside was totally packed.

 We did not dress up.
Finally in the theater in the Marquis Hotel in Times Square.  The set looked really cool.
 The extras came marching in.

We were sitting with the guy that wrote the music for Wicked!
 This guy was the host.
There is Kristin and Idina.  They were very funny.

Adam Lambert sang a song!  Ariana Grande was my favorite!
The girls changed outfits often.  Told lots of stories and sang a bunch of songs.  And to our delight, they had to refilm a bunch of the songs so we got to see them twice!
 Nothing like little cupcakes.
We had dinner at a local Italian place.  The kids were a little too comfortable at the bar.

We ran back to the train and got an express.  It was a fun night.
 An article about the show.
