From Kauai to the Big Island

Well it's Thurday night and we are in Kona on the Big Island. This morning we got up and packed. We then drove to the Waimea Canyon on the West side of Kauai. They call it the "Grand Canyon" of Hawaii. Not too far. We drove through sugar cane fields.

First we stopped for lunch in Waimea. I had a tin lunch, which was how the workers at the sugar cane fields ate. It was 3 separate meals in 3 tins that lock together for easy carrying.

The Canyon. Pictures will never do it justice. From driving up thousands of feet when you can see the ocean and the canyon, to the shear size and colors.

Our car! Had that top down the whole time.

Driving along the canyon. Right on the edge, with no guardrail.

Shaved ice. The national Hawaiian treat. Just a snow cone if you ask Amy.

Coffee trees!

In the air over Ohau. The water you see is Pearl Harbor and you can just make out the Arizona memorial.

You can see 3 islands in the picture. The top left is Moloki, the right is Maui and the botton is Lanai.

Mt. Haleakala on Maui

The landscape is a little different on the Big Island then Kauai. It's like being on the moon. Just lava as far as you can see.

Our plane.

The airport gates are outside here and Kauai.

A honeymoon treat for us! Champagne, Macadame nuts and coconut and fruit.

When we arrived at the hotel it was dark so we didn't get a good look around but we ate by the pool. The place was crazy. People everywhere. The pool area was totally different then the Hyatt. A couple of weddings were going on outside. Tomorrow I'll post some pics.
