Day 3: Towers and Potters

Last Wednesday, we got up early again to head to a tour of the Tower of London.  First we had breakfast.
Then we took an Uber.  We were concerned about the kids being able to handle a 3 hour tour of a 1000 year old castle but they loved it!  Especially the twins who were fascinated and did not stop asking questions.  There was a long line to get in but it went fast.

You can see the Shard from there.  I love that the old and new are right next to each other.
Such history at this place.

Our first view of the Tower Bridge.
This is where the crown jewels are kept.
No pictures inside.  It was amazing to see the jewels.
This place was a zoo once so there are animal statues all around.

First time seeing royal guards.
We went into the different towers where the prisoners were kept before they were beheaded.  Including Anne Boleyn, Henry the eigth's second wife.
The prisoners all left messages on the walls.

This is where the beheadings were done.

Look at the lines forming.
We have our own royal guards.

A model of the place.
What a fascinating tour.
Except maybe for Eli, this was my favorite picture of the week.

The kids all got along well.
Then we headed back to the hotel and got picked up for our next tour.  Harry Potter filming locations.  First was the Australian embassy which was Gringot's bank.
We passed by St Paul's Cathedral.
We saw a line for the Sky Garden, which we didn't get tickets for.  I guess you still have to wait in line with tickets.

Leadenhall Market, which was ued for the outside shots of Diagon Alley.
This was the door to The Leaky Cauldron.

This is the Globe Theater where Shakespeare performed.
The Millenium Bridge.
This was St Pancras Station, which they used for outside shots of King's Cross Station, where the Hogwarts Express left from.
Our guide would show us scenes from the movies so we knew what we were looking at.
We then saw Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station where you walk through the wall to get to the Hogwarts train.
A long line for pics.
This was Sirius Black's house where the Order of the Phoenix hid out.
After the tour, he dropped us off at Hamley's toy store on Oxford Street.
This is one of the oldest toy stores in the world.
Six stories of fun!
Cute!
We spent a long time exploring.
So much to see.

Of course there was candy.
Some great Legos.
We then walk towards Piccadilly Circus.
A lot of fun stores we hadn't seen yet.
Passing through Piccadilly.

We somehow ended up in Chinatown.  We picked a random place and had a very nice meal!
We then came across Donutelier, which was on my list to try.
How to choose?
They all looked fantastic.
Ariel couldn't contain herself.
Happy with my choices.
Here we go!
Aden wanted gelato.

We ate our way through London!
